Lead Cellar

LEAD CELLAR - HOURS Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4pm

Ron Rubin Winery Lead Cellar is responsible for overseeing and helping to execute cellar work. The Lead Cellar will ensure that work orders assigned by winemaking are executed accurately and in a timely fashion. This position will perform cellar work directly and is responsible for the cleanliness, safety, and sustainability of the cellar operations.

Essential Functions:
• Operate cellar equipment including but not limited to pumps, crusher/destemmer, plate and frame filters, and crossflow filtration.
• Collaborate with the winemaking team in planning and scheduling of cellar activities.
• Advise winemaking of any wine quality issues such as VA, films, or other wine defects.
• Responsible for lead day-to-day management of all tanks in the cellar.
• Provide input on all cellar SOPs and help ensure the cellar crew is trained and following them.
• Prioritize work orders for cellar based on time sensitivity and workflow efficiency.
• Moving, racking, and blending wine.
• Ensure tank gassing schedule is completed weekly.
• Ingredient additions.
• Monitor cellar for cleanliness and address issues promptly. Maintain 5S program.
• Instruct team members on the safe and proper use of equipment and techniques
• Inventory cellar supplies at set intervals
• Maintain cellar supply storage area in a clean and tidy fashion, remove expired materials from inventory.
• Receive cellar supplies

Position Requirements:
• At least 2 – 3 years of wine cellar experience
• Ability to make accurate calculations
• Possess a solid knowledge of wine and winery operations with a willingness to continue to learn
• Familiarity with the use of all types of winery equipment is essential
• Forklift certification a plus

Physical Demands:
• Must be able to work outdoors in extremes of heat/humidity/cold and other inclement weather conditions.
• Must be able to walk on uneven ground.
• Must be able to lift to 60 pounds.
• Must be able to see clearly enough to a) drive safely b) recognize employees c) work on computers for long periods of time.
• Must be able to work long hours when required.
• Must be able to sustain the repeated use of hands as well as long periods of standing, walking, and bending.
• Must be able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders safely
